Incentive Compensation and Employee Ownership, Fifth Edition

Incentive Compensation and Employee Ownership, Fifth Edition Review

See more picture

This book takes a broad look at how companies can use incentives, ranging from stock plans to cash bonuses to gainsharing, to motivate and reward employees in growing companies. Using both technical discussions and case studies, it explores incentives both as self-sufficient tools and as complements to retirement-oriented plans such as ESOPs. The fifth edition has been revised and expanded to make the book more useful and relevant in today's business environment, replacing several old chapters with a primer on the various ways of sharing equity with employees, a chapter on restricted stock, a chapter on replacing options with performance shares, and two new case studies.

From the supplier: Employers can use simplified employee pensions (SEPs) to avoid paying FICA taxes on employee bonuses and distributing the contributions to the SEPs immediately. Early distributions from the SEPs are subject to a 10% early withdrawal penalty for employees under 59 1/2 years old, but for most employees the penalty will be a smaller percentage than withholding taxes would have been. SEPs would also allow employees to maintain tax deferral of their bonuses, and the employer could deduct contributions not paid out by year's end.
